Louisiana Tech University College of Engineering and Science doctoral student Niloy Paul was awarded Second Prize in the 2025 Trenchless Research Competition, held in Denver, Colorado, during the annual No-Dig Show organized by the North American Society for Trenchless Technology.

“Winning this award was a deeply meaningful moment for me,” said Niloy. “It was my third time attending the No-Dig Show, and being honored this year — especially as the sole representative of both the University and the Trenchless Technology Center — felt incredibly validating.”

Paul’s award-winning research was selected from entries submitted by student researchers across North America. His work represents the cutting-edge innovation and academic excellence cultivated at Louisiana Tech’s Trenchless Technology Center.

“This award reinforces my motivation to keep pursuing innovative, interdisciplinary solutions that benefit both industry and the environment,” he added. “As I move forward in my Ph.D. journey, I’m committed to turning research into real-world solutions for a more sustainable future.”

Paul also expressed gratitude for those who have supported his journey.

“I’m especially thankful to my advisor, Dr. John Matthews, and mentors like Dr. Shaik Hussain and Richard Edwards, whose support has been vital to my progress,” he said.

“This recognition is a testament to Niloy’s hard work and our continued commitment to advancing trenchless technology through impactful research,” said Director of the Trenchless Technology Center Dr. John Matthews. “His achievement highlights the national relevance of the research happening at the TTC and showcases the talent we are developing here at Louisiana Tech.”

In addition to Paul’s honor, more than 20 undergraduate members of the AGC/NASTT student chapter attended the No-Dig Show to network, learn from industry leaders, and explore emerging technologies in the field.

About the Trenchless Technology Center (TTC):
The Trenchless Technology Center at Louisiana Tech University is an internationally recognized research facility focused on the development and advancement of trenchless methods and technologies. Trenchless technology refers to techniques for installing, repairing, or replacing underground infrastructure — such as pipelines and utilities — without the need for continuous open trench excavation. TTC serves as a hub for research, education, and industry partnerships aimed at improving the sustainability, cost-effectiveness, and safety of underground infrastructure systems.
