Louisiana Tech University’s College of Education will begin a quarterly seminar series titled Living with Technology with an event focused on the use of unmanned aerial vehicles, or drones, at 4 p.m. April 20 in University Hall. The event will also be livestreamed, and registration is available online.

“Technology is interwoven into the fabric of society,” said Dr. Don Schillinger, Dean of the College. “The Living with Technology seminar series builds on the design and success of the New Frontiers series, providing an opportunity for the campus community to learn about and discuss topics through the lens of how humans interact with various forms of technology.

“Our goal for the series is to enhance awareness, encourage conversations, and stimulate collaborative research, scholarship, and entrepreneurial activity.”

The spring seminar will feature a number of experts on the use of drones to facilitate work in agriculture and defense. The panel-style conversation about new developments in drone technologies, programs, certification, and outreach will be available free of charge to the general public.

The panel will include Adam O’Malley of the LSU AgCenter, Cade Spikes of S&K Innovative Technologies, Dr. Clint Coleman of the Louisiana Board of Regents, Jeremy Gilbert and Chase Atwood of Edko, and defense contractor Vernon Horne.

“We in the College of Education are appreciative of Justin and Jeanette Hinckley for investing in and supporting this and numerous other activities on our campus that bring the broader community into our classrooms and connects our faculty, collaborators, and students to the greater community outside of our University walls,” said Dr. Lindsey Keith-Vincent, Associate Dean of the College of Education. “We are also incredibly thankful for the thought leaders, faculty members, industry partners and students who will be serving on the inaugural panel. We look forward to a rich conversation for this first event in April and many more stimulating and engaging conversations throughout this series.”
