Admission to the Honors Program

Apply today

The Honors Program application for 2024-25 is now open. Priority consideration will be given to applications received by December 1st.

Starting in December we will notify applicants of outcomes the first week of each month. The application closes May 31, 2024.

You will log into your Kennel account to apply. If you have already completed your Louisiana Tech application, please contact the Office of Admissions at Bulldog@LATech.edu for assistance with Honors application.

Criteria

Our application process is holistic. We look for high achievers, but we also seek creatives and late bloomers who view college as a new opportunity to learn and to develop their abilities.

We consider GPA and standardized test scores, but we do not specify a minimum GPA or ACT/SAT score to apply. (The College of Engineering and Science does require a minimum 28 Math ACT score to take engineering honors courses.) Your University application will provide us with that information.

The heart of our application is our three essay questions. Here we are looking for authentic, thoughtful responses that tell us who you are. Our advice: Don’t write what you think we want to read; write your own thoughts.

The process

When you apply to the University you will be prompted to indicate your interest in Honors. Acknowledging your interest will open the Honors application.

Once you begin our application you will first need to read and agree to the Honors Good Standing Policy, which outlines how to remain in Honors if accepted. Once you have agreed to the policy you will proceed to the essay questions, which you will submit once completed.

Application deadlines and outcomes

Our priority deadline for applying is December 1. Our final deadline is May 31, 2024.

We will begin notifying applicants of outcomes in December.

What if you are already attending Tech?

Students already attending Louisiana Tech may apply to Honors if they have a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA after two quarters. In addition to those applicants’ GPA and essay responses, we will consider how many hours of credit those students have earned, which classes they have taken, and on the basis of that information the likelihood of those applicants completing Honors. To apply contact us at Honors@LATech.edu.

Transfer students

Students transferring to Louisiana Tech who were members of Honors at their previous University may apply to Louisiana Tech Honors if:

  • They have a 3.5 cumulative GPA
  • At least a B in each honors class taken in their original honors program

If these conditions have been met, the Director of Honors will consider applying transfer credit on a case-by-case basis. However, a minimum of 15 Honors hours must be earned at Louisiana Tech in order to complete Honors.

No dual enrollment classes or AP credit will count as toward completing Louisiana Tech Honors. While the student’s major department may count those classes for course credit, they will not be allowed as Honors credit.
