Wednesday in the conference room on the 16th Floor of Wyly Tower, Tech’s oldest student received another surprise: Tech President Dr. Les Guice gave the “senior” student everyone calls “Mrs. Cee Cee” a framed proclamation for providing “great inspiration and motivation to her classmates and instructors and to the Kinesiology students” and for being a living illustration of the Tenets of Tech.

Project creates career paths for the STEM workforce
Louisiana Tech University is collaborating with Louisiana Delta Community College (LDCC) to promote science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) technology career pathways for students from seven high schools in North Louisiana.

Markey W. Pierre, ’95, to give Fall Commencement Address
Dr. Markey W. Pierre, President and Managing Partner of Southern Strategy Group of North Louisiana, a full-service governmental affairs consulting firm based in Shreveport, and a 1995 Louisiana Tech graduate (Bachelor of General Studies), will serve as the keynote speaker for the University’s Fall Commencement Ceremonies at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 16, in Thomas Assembly Center on the Ruston campus.

Tech hosts team-building STEM event for high school students, teachers
More than 200 high school students and teachers from across the region got hands-on experience in robotics and circuitry at Louisiana Tech University’s STEM-Discovery Ruston Competition. At the competition, 23 area schools formed teams that used science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) skills to build robotic cars and controllers. The teachers guided their student teams as they applied modeling, programming, and circuitry they learned at the event. Students then maneuvered their finished prototypes using the controllers they assembled and wired.

Youngs establish professorships in School of Agricultural Sciences and Forestry
Ray and Dorothy Young, whose four children first worked on the family farm as youngsters and then received their degrees from Louisiana Tech, have made a generous gift to support two professorships in the School of Agricultural Sciences and Forestry with a focus on Agriculture in Tech’s College of Applied and Natural Sciences.

Steel Betty brings Austin, Texas sound to Howard Oct. 29
Performing music inspired by the heart of Austin, Texas’ music culture, the talented trio Steel Betty will be in Howard Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29 playing both original music and classics from bluegrass legends like Bill Monroe and the Stanley Brothers.
