Preparing for CPA Exam

Preparing for Your CPA Exam

NEW PATHway to cpa licensure

Recent Louisiana legislation creates an additional pathway to Certified Public Accountant (CPA) licensure, giving aspiring CPAs greater flexibility in how they prepare to enter the profession.

Through the new pathway, candidates may pursue licensure after earning a bachelor’s degree in Accounting with 120 hours, passing the CPA exam, and completing two years of qualifying work experience. The existing pathway requiring 150 credit hours, a passed CPA exam, and one year of qualifying experience remains available.

Critical Undergraduate Courses

  • Take BLAW 4103 as a COB Elective
  • Take ACCT 4853 as an International Elective

How to Study for the CPA Exam

  • Use study material provided by large providers like UWorld, Becker, or Gleim.
  • Treat studying for the exam like a part-time job by scheduling time daily.
  • Do not sit for an exam until you have completed all relevant study material and you are consistently passing full length practice exams.

Applying to Sit for the CPA Exam

Contact the state board and provide all necessary documentation, including:

  • Transcripts
  • Letters of recommendation
  • Identifying information for background check

Once you submit all necessary documentation and finish the application process, you will get a notice to sit (NTS). This will allow you to schedule an exam at a testing center.

The guidance provided on this page is intended for students sitting for the CPA Exam in Louisiana. Students planning to sit in any other state are responsible for verifying course requirements and other relevant application information with that state board.
