Dr. Markey W. Pierre, President and Managing Partner of Southern Strategy Group of North Louisiana, a full-service governmental affairs consulting firm based in Shreveport, and a 1995 Louisiana Tech graduate (Bachelor of General Studies), will serve as the keynote speaker for the University’s Fall Commencement Ceremonies at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 16, in Thomas Assembly Center on the Ruston campus.

Tech hosts team-building STEM event for high school students, teachers

More than 200 high school students and teachers from across the region got hands-on experience in robotics and circuitry at Louisiana Tech University’s STEM-Discovery Ruston Competition. At the competition, 23 area schools formed teams that used science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) skills to build robotic cars and controllers. The teachers guided their student teams as they applied modeling, programming, and circuitry they learned at the event. Students then maneuvered their finished prototypes using the controllers they assembled and wired.

Ten Louisiana Tech University students were selected to participate in the Innovation Enterprise’s annual Doggone Good Idea event on Oct. 1. Each participant had one minute to pitch their innovative solution to a problem to a panel of judges including Dr. Don Shillinger, dean of the College of Education, Dr. Andrea Drake, professor and director of the School of Accountancy, and Evan Puckett, a previous winner and founder of Connect One. Cash prizes sponsored by D & H Wholesale Medical were given to the top two winners.

Student Managed Investment Fund grows to $1 Million through contributions to Forever Loyal campaign

Finance students at Louisiana Tech University’s College of Business will soon have $1 million to invest through the Student Managed Investment Fund (SMIF). The Fund will become one of the largest undergraduate student investment funds in the state. Students made the initial investment of $150,000 in March 2018. The Fund is managed by undergraduate finance students who are responsible for all investment research, portfolio positions, and reporting, and governed by an advisory board comprised of industry professionals.
