University Senate – December 2020 Minutes
- Call to Order – The December 14, 2020 meeting of the University Senate was called to order at 4:00 p.m. on Zoom by President Michael Swanbom.
- Welcome – President, Michael Swanbom, COES
- Roll Call – Alicia Kimbell recorded the attendees as they logged into Zoom; a quorum was met
- Approval of November 2020 Minutes – a motion to approve the minutes was made by Joanna Ward and seconded by John Worsencroft; all approved
- Devonia Love-Vaughn, Dean of Inclusion Initiatives & Student Success: Remarks and Q & A
- Spoke to the senate regarding her new role
- Student-centered focus
- Retention
- Scholarship program
- Focus is underrepresented students
- Working to bring academic & student side together
- New Director of Multicultural Affairs will begin on January 13th
- Would like to implement campus climate surveys to obtain thoughts on inclusion in all forms
- Inclusive hiring, retention, and recruiting of students, faculty, and staff
- Developing inclusive excellence strategic plan for campus
- Campus-wide advisory council where every college is represented
- Spoke to the senate regarding her new role
- Policy Review Project
- Justin Kavalir is still reviewing policies with older revision dates
- Mikey Swanbom spoke with Justin and will continue to review policies that are part of the foundation on behalf of the senate
- As policies come up for review, Mikey will make a folder that the senate can view as well as bring up issues/edits that need to be presented to APC
- Request for Support for IT
- Jane Jacob made a request for senate support in writing a proposal requesting the university to set aside a budget to hire additional IT in response to increased needs for their services.

- A motion was made by Joseph Williams and seconded by Joan Lynam to adjourn at 4:45 p.m. All approved.
