  1. Call to Order – The April 24, 2017 meeting of the University Senate was called to order at 4:02 p.m. in University Hall, Room 111, by President Julie Rutledge.
  2. Roll Call – Alicia Kimbell – A quorum was met.
  3. Approval of Minutes
    1. February 2017 – approved on a Toaddy/Schelonka motion
    2. March 2017 – approved on a Toaddy/Schelonka motion
  4. Business
    1. New Business
      1. F. Jay Taylor Undergraduate Teaching Award Vote – Voting took place electronically; paper ballots were given to those that did not bring an electronic device.
      2. Updates on Awards
        1. The nominee packets for the University Senate Chair Award and the Virgil Orr Junior Faculty Award will be due to President Julie Rutledge on Thursday, April 27th by 5 p.m.
        2. The nominee packets for the two awards will be available on the Senate website by Monday, May 1st.  The ad hoc committees will need to review these packets.
    2. Updates from Around the University/State
      1. CLCU – an update of the meeting was given by Senate Vice-President, Ernie Rufleth.  Information pertaining to the meeting has been made available on the Senate Moodle website.
      2. ULS Day – Senate President, Julie Rutledge, attended ULS Day on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at the State Capitol.  A brief overview of the day was given.  Students and faculty from Louisiana Tech were in attendance.
    3. APC Updates
      1. Enrollment has increased slightly from this time last year.  The focus remains on yield.
      2. The Louisiana Tech Division of Nursing has been named the Nursing School of the Year for Undergraduate Degree Programs.
      3. The College of Education (COE) was tied #1 in the nation with Purdue University and ranked #1 in Louisiana of the “35 Best Elementary Education Degrees for 2017”.
      4. The College of Engineering and Science (COES) had close to 200 student sign during the Commitment Day event.
      5. Professional Aviation (PRAV) is celebrating its 50th anniversary.
      6. The Louisiana Tech Department of Theatre will be performing the production of “Rumors” on May 2nd through May 7th.
      7. The Louisiana Tech Concert Association will host the Russian National Ballet for a performance of “Cinderella” on April 26th.
      8. The Department of Kinesiology and the ESPE Club will host the Mustache Dash 5K at Hideaway Park on May 4th.
  5. Sub-Committee Work Time – each sub-committee met for the remainder of the meeting to discuss initiatives and make notes for their continuation during next academic year.
  6. Adjournment – Meeting was adjourned at 5:00 p.m.
