November 12, 2018 – Minutes

  1. Call to Order – The November 12, 2018 meeting of the University Senate was called to order at 4:00 pm in University Hall, Room 111, by President Michael Swanbom.
  2. Roll Call – Alicia Kimbell called roll; a quorum was met.
  3. Approval of October 2018 Minutes – a motion was made by Laura Gentry/Jonathan Walters and was approved by the Senate body.
  4. New Business
    1. Letter RE: COLAs
      1. President Swanbom asked the Senate for final comments/suggestions upon review of the letter of support that will be presented, on behalf of the University Senate, to Dr. Guice regarding a request for annual cost of living adjustments
      2. A request was made to include a copy of the informational attachments that were discussed in Jonathan Walters’ October 2018 presentation on data gathered from the annual SREB Salary Report
      3. Kathleen Heiden made a motion to approve the COLA letter; all were in favor
    2. Letter RE: UNIV 289A
      1. A copy of the draft of this letter was given to the Senate body. President Swanbom requested that the Senate members review the letter and e-mail him with any suggested edits or changes.
    3. APC Updates
      1. Discussion of the new capital campaign that the university has embarked on in which the goal is to raise $125 million in three years
      2. Discussion of the extra student fees of $90/credit hour above 8 hours that became effective this Winter Quarter
  1. Sub-Committee Work Time – Each sub-committee met for the remainder of the meeting to discuss new or continuing initiatives to work on in the current academic year.
  2. Adjournment
    1. The meeting was adjourned at 4:40 p.m. on a motion made by Kevin Cuccia; all Senate members were in favor.
