Colleges partner to host FIRST Robotics Competition Kickoff
Louisiana Tech University hosted teams from nine local high schools to kick off the second annual FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition. Participants, including students, faculty and staff from Louisiana Tech’s Colleges of Engineering and Science and Education, gathered in the University’s Integrated Engineering and Science Building in Ruston, where they brainstormed, shared ideas, picked up building kits, and watched as FIRST Robotics unveiled the 2020 competition theme: Infinite Recharge.
Johnson No. 1 in high-achieving 40 Under Forty class
Louisiana Tech’s Dr. Donna Johnson earned the 2019 Young Professional of the Year from the Young Professional Initiative (YPI) of the Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce in December. Johnson serves as Assistant Vice President for Academic Advancement and Partnerships at Tech. She joined the University in 2018 and was placed in charge of overseeing the Academic Success Center in Bossier City, the Tech Barksdale Program, and the Tech Shreveport Center, a key role as Tech grows its brand, its services, and its support westward.
Digging for clues at the cellular level in DeCoster’s Lab
Dr. Mark DeCoster and his group in the Cellular Neuroscience Lab at Louisiana Tech are involved in several areas of research concerning the brain and nervous system, including the development of nanotechnology to understand how the brain works at the cellular level in both healthy or diseased states.
Science Café Jan. 14 to focus on children’s health
Louisiana Tech’s chapter of the Sigma XI Scientific Research Honor Society invites the Ruston and Tech communities to the winter quarter installment of its Science Café series, a discussion titled “Children’s Health: It Takes a Village,” lead by Dr. Julie Rutledge, Associate Professor of Human Ecology and director of Tech’s Education and Research in Children’s Health (ENRICH) Center.
