Call to Order – The January 27, 2020 meeting of the University Senate was called to order at 4:02 p.m. in Wyly Auditorium by President Michael Swanbom
Welcome – President, Michael Swanbom, COES
Roll Call – Alicia Kimbell called roll; a quorum was met
Approval of December 2019 Minutes – a motion to approve the minutes was made by Berg and seconded by Reis; all approved
Survey
Mikey Swanbom provided a link to a statewide survey that was used to assess satisfaction of faculty in the state; he asked senate members to review and consider if some of these questions may be appropriate to ask on the upcoming senate survey
Jonathan Walters presented updated information from the most recent SREB report
Showed a comparison of the salaries of full, associate, and assistant professors from each school in relation to the SREB institution category it fits into; gave a better idea of how Louisiana Tech ranks in comparison to the other category 2 schools
Preliminary Update and Presentation on Tech’s Budget
Mikey Swanbom presented information found in the 2018-2019 budget including topics of revenues/student fees, expenditures, and unrestricted expenditures by object
Plans to enter budget data from previous years to look for trends which will help the senate to determine where additional questions need to be asked
Resolution in Support of Committees to Review Policies on Academic Freedom and Due Process for Contingent Faculty
Time did not allow to cover this topic; a decision was made to put on hold for discussion at the February meeting
Sub-Committee Work Time – time did not allow for senate members to work in their committees
