Louisiana Tech University Senate – December Minutes

Monday, December 11th at 4:00-5:00 pm, Wyly Auditorium

  1. Call to Order – The December 11, 2023 meeting of the University Senate was called to order at 4:00 p.m. in Wyly Auditorium by President, Louis Reis.
  2. Welcome – President, Louis Reis, COES
  3. Roll Call – Alicia Kimbell recorded attendance; a quorum was met
  4. Approval of November 2023 Minutes – a motion to approve the minutes was made and seconded; all approved
  5. APC Updates
    1. COEHS Dean search
      1. The individual scheduled for Friday, 12/15 dropped out
      2. Presentations scheduled for Tuesday, 12/12 and Wednesday, 12/13
    2. Athletics Academic Success Center
      1. Taking bids in January, construction beginning this Spring
    3. Agricultural Center
      1. Taking bids in January/February; construction beginning this Spring
    4. GTM – under renovations soon
    5. CTH – approval received to start looking for architect
    6. Data Governance Committee
      1. One faculty representative needed
      2. Mikey Swanbom nominated Jim Palmer for this position; all approved
  1. QEP Updates – Keri King
    1. Currently in design phase; items can still be changed
    2. SACSCOC will have an on-site visit to campus March 31 through the first week of April
    3. May be able to pilot some things throughout the year
      1. Qep.latech.edu – can see the names of team members
        1. Reach out to members or Keri King for suggestions
      2. Currently in the commit phase – What type of budget requirements are we going to need?
      3. Focus is advising
        1. Goals – Students with an increased self-understanding lending to collaborative relationship in the academic advising process
        2. Pilot in FYE
        3. Online Canvas course is currently in design phase that will serve as a tool for advisors
    4. Keri King asked for feedback from the senate members
  2. Climate Survey Results – Marcia Dickerson
    1. Only quantitative results presented to senate
    2. 337 respondents on survey
      1. Open for 12 days
      2. 7-point scale
    3. Will distribute to everyone after full results are calculated
      1. Open-ended responses will be shared with Dr. Henderson
    4. Climate Survey Committee Members: Marcia Dickerson, Kathleen Heiden, Mikey Swanbom, and Dustin Whitlock
    5. Forum has been set up on University Senate Moodle page for QEP and Climate Survey questions
  3.  Adjournment
