University Senate – May 14, 2018 Minutes

Monday, May 14, 2018 at 4:00-5:00 pm, Press Box at Joe Aillet Stadium

  • Call to Order – Ernest Rufleth
    • The May 14, 2018 meeting of the University Senate was called to order at 4:00 pm at Joe Aillet Stadium, by President Ernest Rufleth.
  • Guest Speaker – President Guice
    • President Guice served as guest speaker during the final Senate meeting of the year. He thanked the Senate members for their faculty/staff support of the university as well as working to initiate and follow up with policies pushed through by the Senate this year. 
    • Following his opening remarks, President Guice gave time for Q & A from the members of the Senate. Topics discussed included:
      • Plans in place for a university facelift
      • Blending campus with downtown Ruston
  • New housing plans
    • New signage on campus
      • Current University Senate policies that are in progress
      • Spring Quarter Commencement
  • Senate Awards to be given at Fall Faculty/Staff Convocation
  • Roll Call – Alicia Kimbell
    • A quorum was met.
  • Approval of Minutes
    • April 2018 – approved on a Swanbom/Murray motion; all were in favor to approve the minutes.
  • Business
    • Old Business
      • Voting on Officer Positions for 2018-2019 – voting took place by paper ballot and was counted immediately. No need for a run-off.
        • Michael Swanbom – President
        • Lynne Nielsen – Vice-President
        • Teresa Murray – Treasurer
        • Laura Gentry – Parliamentarian
      • Voting on Faculty and Staff Awards – voting took place by paper ballot and was counted after the meeting adjourned. No need for a run-off.
  • Voluntary Remarks and Reminders
    • Thank you for a wonderful year in the Senate!
  • Adjournment
    • Meeting was adjourned at 4:48 p.m.
