University Senate – May 14, 2018 Minutes
Monday, May 14, 2018 at 4:00-5:00 pm, Press Box at Joe Aillet Stadium
- Call to Order – Ernest Rufleth
- The May 14, 2018 meeting of the University Senate was called to order at 4:00 pm at Joe Aillet Stadium, by President Ernest Rufleth.
- Guest Speaker – President Guice
- President Guice served as guest speaker during the final Senate meeting of the year. He thanked the Senate members for their faculty/staff support of the university as well as working to initiate and follow up with policies pushed through by the Senate this year.
- Following his opening remarks, President Guice gave time for Q & A from the members of the Senate. Topics discussed included:
- Plans in place for a university facelift
- Blending campus with downtown Ruston
- New housing plans
- New signage on campus
- Current University Senate policies that are in progress
- Spring Quarter Commencement
- New signage on campus
- Senate Awards to be given at Fall Faculty/Staff Convocation
- Roll Call – Alicia Kimbell
- A quorum was met.
- Approval of Minutes
- April 2018 – approved on a Swanbom/Murray motion; all were in favor to approve the minutes.

- Old Business
- Voting on Officer Positions for 2018-2019 – voting took place by paper ballot and was counted immediately. No need for a run-off.
- Michael Swanbom – President
- Lynne Nielsen – Vice-President
- Teresa Murray – Treasurer
- Laura Gentry – Parliamentarian
- Voting on Faculty and Staff Awards – voting took place by paper ballot and was counted after the meeting adjourned. No need for a run-off.
- Voting on Officer Positions for 2018-2019 – voting took place by paper ballot and was counted immediately. No need for a run-off.
