Life on Campus

New Student Orientation

UPDATE: Orientation Moves to Online Format!

To Our Future Bulldogs,

Each year, we look forward to hosting our incoming students at summer orientation. This is where their Tech story begins as they experience the beauty of our campus, meet future classmates who become friends, and discover what makes the Tech community a family. We know that after those three days on campus, our students have found a home they cannot wait to return to in the fall.

This year, we have been determined to preserve those experiences despite the continued presence of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) in our state and lives. Through postponing sessions and altering our schedule, we have made every attempt to give you an in-person orientation that welcomes and prepares you for the next chapter of your life.

On Monday, Gov. John Bel Edwards’ highlighted the concerning growth of COVID cases among the younger populations in the state. It was at this moment that we decided an in-person orientation is no longer the responsible option for our University community and the hundreds of  guests we expected to bring to campus. While we had hopes that July would bring declining cases and lessened fears of spread, the reality is that we are not out of the woods yet, and we cannot risk the health and safety of our students and parents.

Moving forward, our summer orientation sessions will now take place in an all-online format which you will be able to access through Tech’s Moodle platform the same week you are currently registered. Through this new virtual orientation, you will still learn the ins-and-outs of being a Tech student, be advised and registered for classes, and prepare for what is to come in the fall. One of the most important aspects of Orientation is to build relationships with other new bulldogs, faculty, staff, and current Louisiana Tech students, most importantly…our Orientation Student Leaders (OSLs).  They will be such a great resource for you the entire first year. While you won’t be able to meet our OSLs just yet, they will soon begin reaching out to introduce themselves as a student mentor and resource as you continue to navigate these uncertain waters. More details will be sent soon on how to access the online orientation, so please continue to check your email. Remember, keep your calendars marked for your original orientation week as that is when you will access your online orientation course.

With these changes come many questions and our office will work to answer them all in a timely fashion. To help, we are including answers to some of our more frequently asked questions below and on our Orientation FAQ page. If you do not find the answer to your question below, please feel free to contact us at orientation@latech.edu

While we may not be able to see you next month, we are still planning to welcome students back to Tech for the start of Fall Quarter in September. We look forward to this day when you are on campus where you belong. Until then, keep your heads up and stay healthy out there Bulldogs, we’ll see you soon!

Forever Loyal,

Louisiana Tech Orientation
