The Board of Supervisors authorizes the President of each institution under the jurisdiction
of the Board to submit to the Board by the April Board meeting each year a list of
employees who will participate in the summer school session. Each institution shall
develop a pay plan for summer employment consistent with the mission and activities
of the institution to be submitted for Board approval.

Employment of teaching personnel for summer sessions is done on the basis of need
in the instruction­al, research, and special service categories. The final determination
of the individuals assigned is left to the respective Dean and Unit Head for the discipline
involved. Regular faculty are appointed on a 9-month contract. The University is under
no obligation to hire faculty to teach in the summer session.
