Institute for Micromanufacturing

The Institute for Micromanufacturing (IfM) was established in 1986. IfM is a collaborative and interdisciplinary research environment focused on innovations in multiscale structures, devices, and systems. IfM provides education and training to the next generation of scientists and engineers, and a broad range of services to academic and industrial users. has been at the forefront of integrated multidisciplinary research and education. The research thrusts of IfM, supported by current experimental capabilities and intellectual capital in micro- and nano- scale fabrication, materials characterization, and computational modeling are:

  • Energy & Environmental Technologies
  • Advanced Materials and Manufacturing
  • Bionanotechnologies

The Institute consists of an interdisciplinary team of faculty and staff housed in a 41,000 sq. ft. building, designed specifically for research and development of micro/nanoscale technologies and systems. The R & D complex includes laboratory facilities with extensive micro- and nano- fabrication capabilities, and a comprehensive set of measurement and characterization tools, as well as modeling and simulation capabilities.
