Student Conduct Hearing Process

Behavioral Standards Violations

  • An Incident Report is submitted to Student Conduct and Academic Integrity.
  • Notification of allegations is issued in writing, usually via email, and the student is invited to attend a pre-hearing meeting.
  • A pre-hearing meeting is conducted with the Conduct Official to discuss the incident and prep for a possible Behavioral Standards meeting.
  • As determined in the pre-hearing, the student must attend an Administrative Hearing or a Behavioral Standards Meeting.
  • Near the conclusion of the Administrative Hearing or Behavioral Standards Meeting, there is an immediate deliberation period.
  • If the student is found Not Responsible, then the student is notified in writing of the findings, and no further action is taken.
  • However, if the student is found Responsible, then the student is notified in writing of the findings and assigned sanctions.
  • The student may appeal the findings and/or the sanctions in writing within three business days of the original findings and/or sanctions.

Honor Code Violations

  • A Report of Honor Code Violation is submitted to Student Conduct and Academic Integrity.
  • In a no-contest incident, the case is closed, and no further action is taken.
  • In a contested incident, notification of allegations is issued in writing, usually via email, and the student is invited to attend a pre-hearing meeting.
  • A pre-hearing meeting is conducted with the Conduct Official to discuss the incident and prep for the upcoming Honor Council Meeting.
  • Near the conclusion of the Honor Council Meeting, there is an immediate deliberation period.
  • If the student is found Not Responsible, then the student is notified of the findings, and no further action is taken.
  • However, if the student is found Responsible, then the student is notified in writing of the findings and assigned sanctions.
  • The student may in writing appeal the findings and/or the sanctions within three business days of the original findings and/or sanctions. Please note that the grade appeal process is a separate process from the Honor Code appeal, and that process must be pursued through the academic department.
