American Sign Language Appreciation Club
Purpose
The American Sign Language Appreciation Club aims to provide educational opportunities to those interested in American Sign Language and culture of the Deaf community or are majoring in Speech-Language Pathology or Audiology. We aim to develop a positive rapport between Louisiana Tech University and the Deaf community in North Louisiana. We also want to get involved by providing different service opportunities that aid the Deaf community in North Louisiana. The organization's recognition will support the mission of the University providing teaching opportunities surrounding American Sign Language and Deaf culture, contributing to public service through volunteer events that also benefit the Deaf community in Ruston and surrounding areas, and benefitting the workforce development of the members involved because it will serve to educate them on a community that they might encounter in their future careers. The organization is open to all students at Louisiana Tech University and will serve as a way to educate students in a new language and way of life. The mission of American Sign Language Appreciation club is to educate on American Sign Language and the Deaf Community by providing teaching events and volunteer opportunities to students.
Membership requirements
Expectations for members of this organization are to learn basic signs and to use the signs that they learn in various community projects.
* All student organizations have a minimum GPA requirement of 2.0 for general membership and 2.5 for Executive Officers.
Meeting times and location
General meetings will be held twice a month in Robinson 115. Educational meetings will be held for further help in learning signs and will be held on select Saturdays; the meeting place is to be announced.
