Mock Trial Team
Purpose
To create and facilitate a network of students with interests in debating, mock trial, and pursuing an education and/or career in the law, [2] To promote greater awareness and education among Louisiana Tech students of the benefits of mock trial and understanding the legal process, [3] To educate Louisiana Tech students, regardless of major or prior experience, in mock trial methods and strategies of varying depths, interests, and inclinations, [4] To connect Louisiana Tech students with faculty, alumni, and professionals with relevant experience mock trial and real trial expertise, [5] To facilitate educational and competitive mock trial opportunities and simulations to allow members to gain resume-building experience.
Membership requirements
A member shall be defined as any individual who has signified their membership by trying out, signing the attendance policy, maintaining good standing with the University and the organization, and/or graduated in good standing with the University and/or the organization. Only current students may be members. A member must have completed the tryout process. The process of tryouts will be decided on by the current executive committee and advisor. The tryout judges can include, but are not limited to the team’s current advisor, either a member of the legal Ruston community or a professor at Louisiana Tech University, executive committee members who are graduating, and anyone else who the current advisor and President deem necessary. The tryout will take place in the Spring quarter of each year. The only members exempt from the tryout process are incoming freshmen and transfer students. They will submit an application, and be selected by the current executive committee. Any student chosen through this process will automatically fill any available positions on the red and blue team, the amount of students selected will be decided on by the President and current team’s advisor. This process will take place in the Fall quarter of each year. Active members currently enrolled in the university must meet certain qualifications to attain and maintain membership. Active members must have completed the tryout process or be an incoming freshman or transfer student. Active members must have signified their membership by signature. For this purpose, a signature shall be any form of recognition of individual identity and consent of being recorded as a member, mutually acknowledged by the individual and the organizational leadership as binding in such manner. Active members shall maintain good academic and disciplinary standing with Louisiana Tech University, maintain good conduct according to this Constitution and Bylaws, and remain enrolled in the university. Voting members must be academic members. No individual shall be denied membership in The Mock Trial Team on any grounds of identity, such as but not limited to race, ethnicity, gender and sexuality, creed, class, or citizenship.
* All student organizations have a minimum GPA requirement of 2.0 for general membership and 2.5 for Executive Officers.
