Student Organizations
National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP)
Purpose
The purpose of this proposal is to share my honest desire, as well as those of others, to see minority groups prosper around us. I’m writing to request that the NAACP be re-charted on the Louisiana Tech Campus. I feel there is an urgent need for the presence to be visible on campus once again. The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People was founded in 1909 by an interracial group of activists, with the intentions of decreasing the ongoing violence against African Americans. This group has flourished since then to educate everyone about the societal ills and inequities that African Americans and other minorities suffer on a daily basis. This group brings together people from many cultures who share a common goal: to be treated equally. As a student on campus, I feel that it would be a great opportunity for others to come together to work within the local community.
