National Society of Black Engineers
Purpose
The mission of NSBE is to increase the number of culturally responsible black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the community. We accomplish this mission by hosting study jams sessions, industry speakers, professional development events, and neighborhood cleanups. The National Society of Black Engineers adheres to Louisiana Tech's mission by providing a safe space for all demographics of students to be provided opportunities to learn, serve the community, and professional encouragement.
Membership requirements
SECTION 1: DEFINITION The term "member" when printed without an initial capital, where used in this Constitution, includes all categories of membership. The term "Member" when printed with an initial capital, where used in this Constitution, is defined in Article III, Section 3(A). SECTION 2: CATEGORIES Membership in the Louisiana Tech Chapter shall be designated as Member, affiliate member, professional member, honorary member, and non-technical member. SECTION 3: ROLES A. Member shall be defined as an undergraduate enrolled as a student at Louisiana Tech University who is a candidate for a degree in engineering, engineering technology, or applied/physical science; or a graduate student who has received an undergraduate degree in engineering, engineering technology, or applied/physical science. Under either conditions previously stated, a Member receives a registered membership card through the payment of annual membership fees. B. Affiliate member shall be defined as a university student who is not pursuing a degree in any of the fields defined in Article III, Section 3 (A); supports the mission and objectives of the Louisiana Tech chapter of NSBE; and has met the criteria to receive a registered membership card through the payment of annual membership fees. C. Professional member shall be defined as a person who has received a Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree from an Accredited Educational Institution in engineering, engineering technology, or applied/physical science as defined using an approved standard or; a candidate for an advanced degree in engineering, engineering technology or applied science as defined using an approved standard, from an Accredited Education Institution; and has met the criteria to receive a registered membership card through the payment of annual membership fees. D. Honorary Member shall defined as a person who does not meet the definition of Member, affiliate member, or professional member, but has contributed through efforts in support of the goals of the National Society of Black Engineers and has been nominated by the Louisiana Tech Chapter. Such person may be granted one year membership or lifetime membership at the discretion of the Chapter Executive Board.
* All student organizations have a minimum GPA requirement of 2.0 for general membership and 2.5 for Executive Officers.
Meeting times and location
6:00 pm every 2nd Tuesday of each month in the Integrated Engineering and Science Building room 224.
