Purpose
The purpose of the Psychology Society and Psi Chi shall be to encourage, stimulate, and maintain excellence in scholarship of the individual members in all fields, particularly in psychology, and to advance the science of psychology. All members shall strive to implement the ideals of scholarship, citizenship, and leadership by rendering services and making contributions to Louisiana Tech University.
Membership requirements
As Psi Chi and Psychology Society are two separate clubs run concurrently, each sector's membership differs. To be eligible to be a member of the Psychology Society, the student must be a psychology major or minor with an interest in learning more about the field. Membership is maintained throughout the year by attending at least two events and not exceeding two unexcused absences per quarter. To be eligible to be a member of Psi Chi, an international Psychology Honor Society, students must adhere to the requirements mandated by the organization and the requirements of a Psychology Society member. A student must have completed at least 14 hours of psychology courses with a minimum psychology GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, have completed at least 36 hours of total college courses with a minimum total GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, and be within the top 35% of their class. Once these requirements have been met, our faculty will reach out to the students to invite them to apply to the international organization (https://www.psichi.org/). *A student does not have to be a member of both organizations to attend our events.
* All student organizations have a minimum GPA requirement of 2.0 for general membership and 2.5 for Executive Officers.
