The Wesley Foundation at Louisiana Tech
Purpose
The Wesley Foundation at Louisiana Tech University is called to testify solemnly of the gospel of the grace of God. Our telos is witness, and our chief task is formation. We seek to prophetically illumine and interrupt the powers that captivate the lives of US citizens. Our strategy is to provide an alternate and subversive education that reconfigures college students’ attention, re-patterns their time, and reshapes their devotion in conformity with the Kingdom of God that has been revealed in and through Jesus of Nazareth, the Lord of all. We carry out our ministry in a time and place wherein bankrupt forms of Christianity are crumbling and allegedly-novel counterfeits are abounding. Yet we rejoice amid these ruins and give thanks — for the selfsame Holy Spirit who was breathed upon the Apostles and poured out at Pentecost is still given lavishly and powerfully to all who are willing to take up their cross and follow Jesus. We take scriptural accounts of the first century Church — especially as portrayed in the Acts of the Apostles — as the normative pattern of our life together. We draw inspiration from the missionary tradition of eighteenth-century Wesleyan and Asburian Methodists and seek to revitalize and extend their work as an evangelical order in our own day. We believe, in the spirit Dietrich Bonhoeffer, that the Sermon on the Mount ought to be received in simple obedience. We aspire to ecclesial fecundity — the greatest joy of the fruit we long to bear is that it might truly be “seed bearing.” We hope to be and to welcome Jesus’ church.
Membership requirements
The Wesley Foundation at Louisiana Tech is a thriving ministry on Louisiana Tech University’s campus that exists to disciple college students. We welcome believers of all denominations, and we seek to bear witness to the grace of God in Jesus Christ so that all people might be gathered into the life of salvation. We worship together weekly, study the word of God, and learn to pray, serve, and teach. Wesley is a place where long-time Christians deepen their devotion to Christ and where many people meet and begin to follow Jesus or the first time.
* All student organizations have a minimum GPA requirement of 2.0 for general membership and 2.5 for Executive Officers.
