Louisiana State Law, RS 29:36.1 provides tuition exemption at any state funded college or votech for members of the Louisiana National Guard.
Example Plan
- Join the Army National Guard now
- Attend fall and winter quarter Tuition Free
- Attend Army initial entry training during spring and summer*
- Return to school in fall tuition free and receive up to $397 per month while full-time student*
- Serve one weekend per month and two weeks each summer paid with eligibility for low cost health insurance.
- Potential opportunity for Split Training Option (no missed school).

United States Army Reserve
The Army Reserve will provide you educational funding to pay for college, and if you’ve already attended college, the Army Reserve will help you pay off your loans.
Army Reserve Educational Assistance Pathway
- Enlist into the United States Army Reserve
- Attend Army initial entry training during spring: Standard Training (miss one semester) or during the summer: Split Option Training (no missed classes)*
- Return to school and receive educational assistance from the Select Reserve GI Bill $13,000 per year and the Select Reserve GI Bill Kicker up to $350 per month while being a full time student*
- Receive Pay for Drilling with your Reserve Unit, one weekend per month and two weeks in the summer. You are also eligible for low cost health insurance
- Receive credit for completing your Initial Entry Training and Advanced Initial Training that can be applied to your degree plan
